About Hardwood Edmonton

What we do

Hardwood Edmonton refinishes and repairs existing hardwood floors for homeowners in Edmonton. If your floors are dull, scratched, stained, gapped or damaged, we bring them back: a screen and recoat when that is all they need, a full sand-back when the wood itself is worn, plus board repair, water-damage work and colour changes. Almost everything we touch is solid red oak strip, because that is what this city put down for thirty years.

Why we talk about the wood so much

Edmonton has one of the largest pools of pre-1980 housing in the country, and that shapes every job here. A floor that went down in 1968 has been sanded once or twice already, has ambered to a colour you cannot buy, and has spent fifty winters shrinking in dry indoor air and swelling back in summer. How much wood is left above the tongue, and what the moisture is doing, decides what can be done to it. That is why we come and look instead of quoting off a square-foot number.

How we work

We start with a free in-home look. We tell you plainly whether your floors want a recoat or a full sand, because those are very different jobs and only one of them is right for your floor. Then you get an honest number and a written plan, and you decide on your own time. If the answer is the cheaper job, the cheaper job is what we quote, and we would rather say that than sell you a sand you did not need.

What to expect

A written quote that lists the rooms, the number of coats, the finish product, and exactly what is and is not included. Dust extraction on the machines and the rest of the house sealed off. Realistic cure times, said out loud before you book rather than after. And a straight answer when a floor is not worth saving, which happens, and which you deserve to hear from the person holding the sander.
